Not every immigration matter follows a straightforward path. • Prior denials or complicated filing histories: Previous visa denials, denied immigration applications or petitions, inconsistent filings, or a complicated immigration history may affect future applications.
• Multiple or overlapping issues: Some cases involve several issues that must be considered together before determining whether and how to proceed with an immigration application.

Understanding the individual's complete immigration history is often an important first step. This may include reviewing prior applications and petitions, immigration records, travel and entry history, criminal records when relevant, prior immigration proceedings, or other documentation.

Depending on the circumstances, an individual may remain eligible for the immigration benefit being sought, may qualify for an exception or waiver, or may need to consider a different immigration strategy.
